LIC bulls have taken out this year’s respective sire of the season awards from the Jersey and Holstein-Friesian breed societies.

Linan Integrity Winston was named Jersey New Zealand’s JT Thwaites Sire of the Season and Maire Golddigger was awarded Holstein Friesian NZ’s Mahoe Trophy.

The JT Thwaites Sire of the Season award is given to the bull that meets criteria in production and traits other than production and has the highest BW after the May Animal Evaluation run.

The Mahoe Trophy is awarded to the NZ-bred bull whose proof has earned the most points for traits, daughter production, conformation, and management.

Simon Worth, livestock selection manager, said it was an honour to see the sires recognised in this way, and for the breeders too.

“These are prestigious awards that many breeders strive for and it’s fantastic that two of our top sires have been recognised as the best in their breeds.

“Congratulations to Colin & Linda Megaw (Linan Integrity Winston) and Craig & Chantelle Rowe (Maire Golddigger) for breeding these elite bulls and having their expertise in the field recognised in this way.

“This is a particularly outstanding achievement for Craig & Chantelle Rowe as another one of their bulls – Maire Gauntlet – won the Mahoe Trophy last year. For a breeder to be awarded the trophy once is an honour but to do so consecutively is outstanding.”
