I have always been driven by a curiosity about how life works, which led to me studying Ecology (with a side of music) at the University of Otago. I quickly realised the potential that molecular technologies have to tackle many modern day issues, and this convinced me to switch to studying genetics. Throughout my coursework I've developed a particular interest in gene therapy, as well as in the use of genetic technologies to address environmental challenges.

After graduating in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science, I am continuing my studies at the University of Otago in an Honours programme. I will be involved in a project aiming to use genetic modification to create a gene drive that could be used to suppress invasive wasp populations in Aotearoa.

I am extremely grateful to be a recipient of the Patrick Shannon scholarship, and the support provided by Livestock Improvement Corporation. This support will allow me to dedicate myself fully to my studies and to take advantage of any opportunities available. I'm excited to continue my journey in genetics, and to apply genetic technologies to solve challenges.
