About
Olivia Spaans is a Scientist (Animal Science) in LIC’s R&D team, specialising in environmental sustainability and animal physiology. Her research spans dairy fertility, female reproductive performance, environmental sustainability, and genotype-by-environment interactions in pastoral dairy systems. As part of her PhD research at the University of Auckland, Olivia investigated transition cow health and subclinical uterine inflammation in dairy cows.
Through her work, Olivia has contributed to advancing scientific knowledge that delivers practical on-farm outcomes, including research into methane and nitrous oxide emissions, transition cow health and the associated inflammatory responses and their link to fertility. Combining strong scientific expertise with a deep understanding of dairying, she is skilled at translating complex research into clear, practical insights that help farmers make informed decisions.
