Richard Spelman


Responsibilities:  Leading and developing a team of more than 40 staff, who are focused on science, commercial application and intellectual property governance.


Richard Spelman joined LIC more than 20 years ago as an analyst with Livestock Selection before undertaking further study at Massey and Wageningen Universities, in which he focused on the application of genomic data in dairy cattle breeding schemes. He returned to LIC in 1998 and has since focused the majority of his research in leading the research and application of genomic selection in the NZ dairy population.

Publications and patents: More than 40 internationally peer-reviewed scientific papers have been published and five patents have been granted.
