LIC | DIY insemination

DIY insemination

Learn to do your own inseminating. We run 5-day training courses for DIY inseminators between February and May each year.  We also sell DIY insemination equipment and lease deep freeze banks for storing semen.

DIY insemination training courses

Learn the correct way to inseminate cattle yourself at our 5-day DIY insemination training courses.  You’ll also learn how to:

  • store and handle fresh and frozen semen
  • safely handle the liquid nitrogen used to keep semen frozen.

We run the courses at training centres throughout the country between February and May each year.

We also run one-day refresher courses for DIY inseminators.

Registrations open in December and close once the courses are full. Please be aware, filling out this form does not constitute a guaranteed placement on the course. Placement priority is given to LIC AB Technicians in training.

Cost

  • $699 (GST excl.) for the 5-day course.
  • $180 (GST excl.) for the one-day refresher course.

Prevent inbreeding and genetic problems

Get a list of potentially risky matings if you’re doing your own inseminating.  We use your herd records to prepare a DIY Mating Report advising you which cow-bull matings to avoid. Your herd records must be up to date in MINDA before we can prepare a DIY Mating Report.

If you’re doing your own inseminating using Premier Sires we’ll send you a report once  you’ve chosen your bull teams.

If you’re using Alpha Nominated bulls ask your LIC rep to prepare a report once you’ve finalised your bull selections.

We’ll post a copy of the report to you and we’ll also email it to you as a PDF.

Contact your LIC rep for more information about DIY Mating Reports.
