MINDA Weights: Better liveweight analysis

MINDA Weights: Better liveweight analysis

  • Reaching target live weights is essential for young stock to achieve top in-calf rates.
  • Well grown heifers also produce more milk and survive in the herd for longer.
  • It's a win all round

The good news is that MINDA Weights now gives you more control over this critical function with the new weights features available free to MINDApro customers.

Ensure your stock reach their liveweight potential with MINDA Weights.

Monitor young stock liveweights

MINDA Weights provides graphical illustrations of whether individual animals are achieving their current ideal liveweights, and allows you to assess how they are doing in terms of recent growth rate.

Monitor the liveweight of your youngstock with MINDA weights to ensure they are reaching their growth potential and are in prime condition for mating and calving.

Track young stock weights (for animals 0-24 months) against targets generated from liveweight breeding values (generated from parentage history) so that you can see at a glance how your mob's liveweight is tracking against its genetic potential.

Monitor whether your stock fall into the 'underweight', 'on target' or 'above target' segments within your herd and track this progress over time.

Grazing stock off-farm

MINDA Weights provides an overview of past and current growth performance by grazing mob, while also allowing you to drill down on the performance of individual breeds within the mob. When animals leave the farm - you'll be able to track their liveweight progress from weaning to their first calving, regardless of where they are grazing.

Calving and herd performance

MINDA Weights allows you to measure and manage the liveweight of young stock in the important lead up to mating and calving.

Heifers that are underweight at their first calving are likely to have reduced productivity when they enter the milking herd and come under 'herd stress'.

Underweight heifers will not only struggle to produce, they will struggle to get in-calf again at mating time and their production may also be negatively affected in future seasons.

Monitor the mob

This graph illustrates the average target weight of animals in a mob, generated by their liveweight breeding values.

Track the trends

This graph shows the proportion of animals at each segment: ideal, above or below target for the recent series of weighing data.

Identify the individuals

The points on the scatter graphs are generated by plotting the current weight vs ideal, and current percentage weight gain vs gain required to reach ideal weight by mating/calving.

Monitor: animals with weight above ideal but percentage weight gain lower than ideal
Recovering: animals with weight below ideal but percentage weight gain higher than ideal
Action: animals that are underweight and not gaining at the ideal percentage
