MINDA

 Useful Groups

One of the best new features of the new MINDA software is the ability to create Groups of animals within a herd. There are several must have groups of animals included when you install the software for the first time, including the Whole Herd, the Numbered Animals, the Unnumbered Animals and Males.

Groups are handy to identify animals and to simplify your herd recording tasks. To record an event (say a health treatment) for all of the animals in a group, you can drag and drop the entire group into the appropriate Wizard. In MINDApro, you can also produce a range of reports that only include a specific group. Here are some examples of useful groups you could create:

›› AGE GROUPS
Available in The new MINDA software allows you to categorise animals by age. You can create various groups of animals, depending on which age groupings you want to identify. Age groups are particularly useful in MINDApro - you can produce reports for the specific age groups you have made.

eg. Three Year Old animals (Age equals 3)

›› CALVING MOBS
Available in Many farms are managed in a split herd situation with an autumn calving and spring calving groups. You can create mobs of animals based on calving dates, allowing you to better manage split herd situations.

eg. Autumn Calving Group (Calving Date is between 20/02/2002 and 10/05/2002)

›› EMPTY COWS
Available in Create an Empty Cows group to identify the empty cows in the herd.

MINDApro

eg. Empty Cows (Reproductive Status equals Empty)

›› PEDIGREE ANIMALS
Available in To view all of the pedigree animals in the herd, create a Pedigree group. With MINDApro, you can then produce reports that include only the Pedigree animals in your herd.

eg. Pedigree Animals (Pedigree equals True)

›› LEASED COWS
Available in If you lease a number of animals temporarily from another farmer, you could potentially create a Leased Cows group of animals that started in your herd on a certain date. When its time to return the leased cows to their owner, you could drag and drop the entire group onto the Remove from the Herd Wizard, to complete the removals for all of the leased cows in one step!

eg. Leased Cows (Start Date equals 10/05/2002)

NOTE: In this example, you would specify the date that the Leased Cows entered the herd. If other animals entered the herd on the same date, a Leased Cows group will not be appropriate.
›› BREEDING WORTH / INDEX GROUPS
Available in When a herd is upgraded to MINDApro, animal indexes are downloaded from the national database after each synchronisation. You can create groups based on each index (eg. Breeding Worth or Production Worth) and set any threshold you like.
  MINDApro
eg. High Breeding Worth Animals (Breeding Worth is greater than or equal to 110)
